About Me
May 31, 2016My name is Sara and I am 26 years old. In May 2016 I was diagnosed with a rare chronic autoimmune disease called Evan’s Syndrome. In the United States, there are less than 300 new cases of Evan’s Syndrome a year. Evan’s is a diagnosis of exclusion. When two of the three blood groups (white blood cells, red blood cells, & platelets) are low and all other diagnoses (HIV, lupus, hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) have been ruled out, it is considered Evan’s Syndrome. In my case, the two blood groups that are being attacked by my immune system are my RBCs and platelets. Essentially, I have a combination of AIHA (Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia) & ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura).
This blog is mostly a way for me to help others, keep my loved ones informed of my progress and treatments, and to cope with my diagnosis.
